Helado Negro, the musical pseudonym of Ecuadorian-American artist Roberto Carlos Lange, released his sixth studio album, This Is How You Smile, earlier this month.
Following 2016’s Private Energy, the album’s title is inspired by Jamaica Kincaid’s 1978 short story in The New Yorker, “Girl” and is self-described as “the soundtrack of a person approaching you, slowly, for 40 minutes.”
Our Song of the Day is the droney “Fantasma Vaga,” which translates to “Wandering Ghost” – an apt title for the synth-filled slow-burner.
Over the weekend, Alex Ruder unveiled Helado Negro’s Midnight in a Perfect World DJ set which features songs from Buscabella, Toro y Moi, and Yaeji. Helado Negro will stop through Seattle on May 5 at Columbia City Theater.
