EPISODE WRITTEN AND PRODUCED BY julian martlew

On the show this time, it’s the minimalist-no-rubbish storytelling of singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin.

The Aussie songwriter Julia Jacklin composes thoughtful lyrics and spacious arrangements, which in combination with her fresh harmonic choices make for a rewarding listening experience. Her latest album Pre-Pleasure is named for the state we all exist in — the moment right before a mythical state — where we have arrived, we have done the work, and we can now live in the state of “pleasure.”  Problem is — that kind of work is never done, so we remain in this state —  pre-pleasure, in perpetuity.  This episode features 3 songs from the new record, one from a Sub Pop Singles Club release, and a bonus from her 2019 in-studio, the epic “Don’t Know How to Keep Loving You” from the album Crushing.  Both are available from the Polyvinyl Record Company.

Recorded 09/30/2022.
