Bruce Springsteen is releasing his nineteenth studio album, Western Stars, on June 14 via Columbia. Today, he’s shared the record’s lead single “Hello Sunshine.”

The slow-chugging rambler twists the idea of the open road as a place of freedom and opportunity to one of loneliness, where loved ones are left behind. “You know I always liked that empty road / No place to be and miles to go / But miles to go is miles away / Hello sunshine, won’t you stay,” Springsteen croons.

Western Stars is the New Jersey icon’s first album since 2014’s High Hopes and is described as “a return to my solo recordings featuring character-driven songs and sweeping, cinematic orchestral arrangements.”

In late 2018, Springsteen wrapped his year-long Broadway residency Springsteen on Broadway, which was initially intended to only last a month but due to high demand kept getting pushed back until its eventual final end in December. A Netflix special and the soundtrack for the show have been released since.
