Review Revue: The Visible Targets - Autistic Savant

Being that I was quite young and on the other side of the country in the heyday of Seattle's The Visible Targets, I was not familiar with the band or their legacy until quite recently (I was more of a Moving Targets kid). But fortunately, I didn't have to go far to find a wealth of information on the band, their short tenure, and what happened after they broke up. Our own DJ El Toro published two posts in 2008 that dove deep into his own experience with the band and then filled in some missing information via an e-mail interview with drummer Ron Simmons. So go check those out (I'll wait) then come back and see what 1983's KCMU DJs thought of the band.

"2nd ep from our very own: Seattle's VISIBLE TARGETS. Produced by MICK RONSON."

"'I Walk a Fine Line'"

"Kinda reggae beat, cool vocals."

"Candid Affection is swingin' - Yeah Rebecca."

"Title cut is pretty good."

"33 1/3 RPM"

"'Twilight Zone' doesn't sound like a remix to me."

"It's not... same vocal track, instrumentation is re-recorded (!)"

"'Candid Affection'"

"Excellent upbeat new music - rock." [This is by the same person who wrote the 'kinda reggae beat' comment. Guess he felt he hadn't been enthusiastic enough before?]

"Whatever happened to them?"

"They broke up. Pamela has a solo record which is nothing like this."

Review Revue: Rainbirds - S/T

Quick, imagine there's a band that formed in Berlin in the mid-'80s and named themselves after an instrumental song by Tom Waits. What do you think they sound like? Guess again. Rainbirds' hooky New Wave sound, at least on their 1987 debut album, was decidedly more conventional than their name's or…
