Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on the Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is "Ready For The Magic" by Honeyblood from their 2016 album, Babes Never Die, out on Fatcat Records.Honeyblood - Ready For The Magic (MP3)The current brains, brilliance, and brio behind the Glasgow's indie rock duo Honeyblood are Stina Tweeddale (vocals/guitar) and Cat Myers (drums/vocals). Formed in 2012 and hailing from Scotland, Honeyblood has quickly made a national and international name for themselves having supported bands like Courtney Barnett, Foo Fighters, Sleigh Bells, and Palma Violets. As purveyors of their own high-octane pop punk meshed with lo-fi garage rock, Honeyblood has just released their sophomore album, Babes Never Die, a seasoned, genre-flirty follow-up to their 2014 self-titled LP. Babes Never Die champions great alternative music in a genre and industry still dominated by male talent, which seems to signify one of the importances of their album title choice. Based on the title track and "Ready For The Magic," Babes Never Die is an anthemic acclamation for women around the globe. With punchy power chords, songs circulating fast and falling heartbeats, and niche pop sensibilities, Honeyblood have apparently made their 2016 record immortal.

It's a fun game to try to pin down their sound due to their fluidness between dream pop, punk, and garage rock on their latest effort. Their songs emote ethereal environments, melodic hooks, and cymbal-driving choruses. Think of a distortion-happy Haim meets a dreamier Tacocat for songs like "Love is a Disease" or a subdued The Julie Ruin meets a sharp-toothed Foo Fighters for songs like "Ready For The Magic." It's a perfect song to throw on the second you walk out of work on a Friday and jam triumphantly to get yourself amped for the weekend - even on a Wednesday morning!

Honey blood recently finished a US tour and will be in Europe through December 8. Find out more about them and updates on an eventual return on their website and Facebook page. For now, check out the occultly artsy music video for "Ready For The Magic" below. It makes for a great complement to the song itself.
