29-year old Gary Clark Jr. may seem young to be a Grammy-nominated blues artist – and he is – but the Austin, Texas, native has been winning awards for his stellar blues guitar playing for most of his life. After all, how many teenagers have a day named after them by their city's mayor? (May 3, 2001, was his!) With two earlier albums under his belt, Clark started to garner buzz outside of Austin and was picked up by Warner Bros. to release his major label debut, and third album, Blak and Blu, this past year... and the awards continue to tumble in. In fact, he's the first artist to be nominated for both the Best Rock Song and Best Traditional R&B Performance Grammy categories at the same time with his song "Ain't Messin 'Round". We were lucky to have Gary Clark Jr. perform a solo set at KEXP about a year and a half ago (watch it here), but this time he brought the whole band for this powerful set of Texas blues live in our studio:
