Every Saturday evening, I look forward to playing you some of my favorite songs. I remember discovering our Northwest music scene: I was lucky enough to stumble on a host opening on the local show at my college station, KGRG FM. I trained with the original hosts of the show a couple of times, and then I took the over. They also provided me with a couple of crates, so at least I had music to start with. Honestly, I didn't know much work I had to do when I started! I listened to so much music, and was able to truly discover what was going on. It was a pretty exciting adventure that I still get to go on years later today. On Tuesday, September 24th, I've asked some great local bands to play a show at Barboza: Hibou, USF, and People Under the Sun. I think it's a nice mix of something special and full of discovery, and Troy and I will be spinning music before the show and in-between bands.

People Under The Sun is from Tacoma. I remember finding them while researching a podcast I made for KEXP about Tacoma's music scene in 2008. They make the type of music that can be enjoyed in space. Their latest album, Burgundy Mountain Morning, Night Train Night, is a listening journey. This is my favorite track on the album. For some reason it reminds of The Doors:

Universal Studios Florida a.k.a. USF is a fun tropic electronic duo. They played an in-studio on Audioasis that was pretty fun, and will give you great idea of what you'll hear at the show.

Also, their EP Universal is available for free download. My favorite track on this is called "Lunar Halo," because it makes me say "Booty Shake Beach Time!"

Hibou's summery jams will top off the night. Their recent performance at KEXP is a head-turn -- not in an exorcism way, but in excitement! I'm really looking forward to this show and I hope you'll considering attending. If you do, here's a secret code for you: walk up to Troy and say "The baby has landed," and then I'll give you a KEXP button. Then, go to the KEXP table, show your button, and you can enter to win a drawing for a LIVE at KEXP, Vol. 9 CD that we'll be giving away that night! See you there!
