Song of the Day: Steve Hauschildt - Accelerated Yearning

Both in his solo work and his contributions to the Cleveland trio Emeralds, musician Steve Hauschildt has been exploring electronic textures and soundscapes for the better part of his adult life. His sophomore solo album, Sequitur, follows nearly a year after the release of his debut, Tragedy & Geometry, and continues that album's trend of using an array of vintage equipment to create modern sounds, but introduces Hauschildt's vocals into the mix for the first time. However, in order to contribute to the Kraftwerk-esque soundscape, Hauschildt's voice is rendered almost completely unrecognizable and is used in a more instrumental sense than a lyrical one. "Accelerated Yearning", one of the album's tracks to feature Hauschildt's new approach, finds him navigating his instruments between the thin line between scientific atmosphere construction and emotion-stirring expression. Hauschildt's restraint keeps the Blade Runner sounds of "Accelerated Yearning" in an intimate setting, letting the evocative tones breathe as Hauschildt uses them to release his desire.
