It's been eight years, but the powerhouse trio of Ultraísta — that's famed Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, vocalist Laura Bettinson of FEMME/lau.ra, and drummer extraordinaire Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M., and too many others to list) — will release a new album, titled Sister, out March 13th via Partisan Records.
“All three of us have so many transferable skills, and Ultraísta is an opportunity to do something outside what we’d normally be doing,” Godrich explained in a press release. “It’s all of us wearing different hats. For me, when I’m working with another creative force, my point of entry into the music is completely different. With this project it can take a lot longer because we’re able to be more self-indulgent. It’s a control freak’s dream!”
Sister came together out of sporadic recording sessions in London and Los Angeles. “Three days of jamming might create two years of work,” he continued. “It’s like building a space shuttle out of matchsticks. It takes ages just to finish a wing, and you’re really proud of it, but then you go off and do something else for a while before you come back to tackle the next piece.”
