MGMT are asserting their autonomy in 2020, having ended 2019 by launching their own MGMT Records label to release the track “In The Afternoon” as a limited edition 12" single. (Their most recent full-length, 2018's Little Dark Age, was released by Columbia.) Both songs on the 12" were produced by the Grammy Award-nominated duo, with mixing by renowned producer/musician Dave Fridmann (possibly best known for his work with Mercury Rev and The Flaming Lips).
In fact, band members Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser even directed and produced the music video themselves, interspersing shots of their faces against kaleidoscopic backgrounds. Watch below.
