Belafonte Sensacional is a folk rock band based in Mexico City led by musician and composer Israel Ramírez. The name "Belafonte Sensacional" was taken from Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, although Ramirez has mentioned that it also refers to Mexican pulp magazines that are sometimes called "sensational.” Belfonte Sensacional draws inspiration from artists and bands like Bob Dylan, Wilco, Bright Eyes, Woody Guthrie, The Kingston Trio, Johnny Cash, and Nick Drake. His songs often reference Mexican literature, slang, and places. Belafonte Sensacional has released four albums, with the most recent being Soy Piedra in 2018.
