Not only is J. Robbins reuniting with his band Jawbox after 22 years, he's also just released his first-ever solo album, Un-becoming, a release that took him over three years to finish. “I think it ended up being an advantage even though it got a little bit painful from time to time, especially towards the end. I was wondering if I would ever finish it,” he explained to New Noise. “It happened that way out of necessity because my time and energy is really split between running my studio and being a parent.”
The album is a somber look at the world today, and the title track of the album (today's featured song), is the darkest of them all. “The lyric in that song is a little bit about the unravelling that’s going on right now," he continued to New Noise. “The unraveling of society and the seeming, sort of time travel back to the gilded age. The depression era.”
J. will be LIVE on KEXP with Jawbox on Tuesday, July 9th at noon, and playing Neumos later that night.
