Toronto artist Seth Nyquist makes emotionally-charged indie-pop under the name MorMor. Last year, he unveiled his debut EP Heaven’s Only Wishful to much acclaim and excitement. Just last week, MorMor played a sold-out show at Barboza that garnered frenzied enthusiasm, with fans scrambling to purchase tickets.
Our Song of the Day is the single “Outside,” an emotive meditation on isolation. “Looking outside/ I’m scared to die/ Despite the moonlight/ It leaves me blind/ How can I find the sun?,” Nyquist reflects over shimmering synths. He had this to say about the song in a press release:
“‘Outside’ was written at a time when I was quite isolated. I’ve always felt rather alienated, so I wanted to ensnare that feeling and make it my own.”
The video for “Outside” focuses on a demoralized clown, perfectly capturing the melancholy of the song via the artistic eye of British director Duncan Loudon. Watch it below.
