Brooklyn-based band HAERTS have had a fairly wild year, despite having not released a new album since their 2014 debut. The majority of this can be chalked up to what could be called the “Lord Huron-effect” where a song gets placed prominently in the show 13 Reasons Why and suddenly teens and moms alike are discovering a band who, until then, had been primarily underground. In Lord Huron’s case, it was a 2-year old song called “The Night We Met” but for HAERTS, a new song titled “Your Love” was made specifically for season two of the Netflix show and has become the most streamed song on the show’s soundtrack with 1.8 Million plays on Spotify and 147K on YouTube. The light of this success makes for a very nice backdrop for HAERTS to finally release their sophomore album.
Currently untitled, the album is due to drop sometime this fall via Toronto label Arts & Crafts. Until then, any single from the musical and romantic duo is appreciated. “New Compassion” is a guitar-heavy ‘70s-inspired Eastern meditation. “‘New Compassion’ is like a chant, like a mantra,” says vocalist Nini Fabi. “It’s about connective forces and finding the strength to be fearless.” Below, watch a 2015 KEXP in-studio performance with HAERTS.
