Mobile FAQs

  1. My Android Phone Isn't Behaving Correctly (streaming stopping, shows not loading, etc)

We have had reports that some Android devices experience issues with the new KEXP app. We have found this seems to be affecting Samsung and Google devices. If this is happening, please try clearing the cache on your device by doing the following

    CLEAR CACHE STEPS

    1. In your Android phone, kill the app
    2. Go to Settings
    3. Scroll down and select Apps
    4. Find the KEXP App in the list
    5. Tap Storage
    6. At the bottom, tap Clear cache
    7. Reopen the KEXP app

  2. I have lost my Favorites in moving to the new app. How can I get them back?

We apologize for the inconvenience and heartache this may have caused you, we know how important your Favorites are. The good news is that we have a fix!

    DO NOT DELETE THE APP
Your Favorites are still on your phone, but if you delete the app, they will be permanently removed and we will be unable to restore them. DO NOT delete the app.

    WHAT HAPPENED
We found during our investigation that for long-time users of our app, some rows in the underlying database on the device had become corrupted. When the new app was installed, a migration of Favorites from the old app to the new app failed due to these corrupted rows.

    NOT ALL FAVORITES WILL RESTORE
Because there is no way for us to restore the corrupted rows, we will not be able to restore those. Testers have seen the restoration of about 90-96% of their lost Favorites.

In addition, any NEW Favorites you have saved since updating will not be preserved due to the nature of the fix; we encourage you to export any before starting the migration.

    RESTORE STEPS

    1. Download the latest app version from the App Store
    2. Open the app and go to “Settings”
    3. Export any new Favorites by tapping “Share Favorites” and save file.
    4. Tap “Technical Support”
    5. Scroll down and tap “Migrate Song Favorites”
    6. Tap “Migrate Favorites”
    7. Wait for it to migrate Favorites….
    8. Once completed, go back to “Favorites”

  3. There are some things that are not in the new app that I miss from the old app. Are those features gone for good?

We have made a lot of changes to the app interface that are permanent changes, but there are a few features that you might be missing that are coming very soon! If you’d like to see a short list, visit our Mobile Roadmap page.

  4. What’s different about the new app compared to the previous app?

There are a few new things in the updated KEXP mobile app:
  • Built in Flutter, allowing us to update both operating systems more quickly and efficiently

  • New interface: All new UI update that looks the same in both iOS and Android (the previous apps for iOS and Android had different interfaces)

  • Podcasts are now in the app!

  • Dark mode

  • Much improved livestreaming

  • Improved CarPlay and Android Auto experiences

  • In-app submission for bugs/issues/enhancements

  • Easier communication to KEXP

  1. What new changes and features will the apps get in the future?

We are looking forward to introducing more new features to the new app, and we do have some things planned, such as creating playlists from your Favorites. Check back in on our Mobile Roadmap to see what we're planning.

  2. I would like to help test! How can I participate?

If you’d like to help test our apps and be the first to try out new features either for Android or iOS, you can sign up to be an app beta tester.
We also are always looking for volunteer usability testers who help us test designs for new features before we even start building them. Learn more about becoming a usability tester.

  3. I want to stop being an iOS tester. How do I leave the testing program?

To be removed from the KEXP TestFlight program:
    1. On your iOS device, open the TestFlight app

    2. Tap on “KEXP”

    3. Scroll down until you see “Stop Testing” and tap

    4. Confirm by tapping “Stop Testing”

    5. You will now be removed. Thank you for your help!

  4. I want to stop being an Android tester. How do I leave the testing program?

Unfortunately, there isn't an elegant way to "downgrade" to the default (non-beta-test) Android app, and your Favorites will not transfer through changing from beta-test app to the default app. We advise using the KEXP app's exporting Favorites feature before leaving the testing program.
    1. From the KEXP app, export your Favorites if you would like to preserve them

    2. Delete the KEXP app from your device

    3. Find the KEXP app on the Google Play Store

    4. Scroll down and look for "You're a beta tester". Tap the "Leave" link.

    5. If you do not see the "You're a beta tester section, remove yourself from the original URL: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/org.kexp.android

    6. Wait about 30 minutes, then close and restart the Google Play Store app. You should notice the "Beta" is not displayed next to the "KEXP" header anymore

    7. Install the app back onto your device. Thank you for your help!
