Midnight in a Perfect World: Kilamanzego

Pronounced "kill a man's ego," Kilamanzego is a queer experimental electronic musician, vocalist, and DJ based in Philadelphia. Forming punk, jazz, hardcore, and ska bands in her youth, her musical interests expanded to leftfield electronic sound design that draws inspiration from her eclectic musical background. Her primary focus is advocating for artists with marginalized identities, especially in the electronic music scene, and she has performed on major festival stages such as Red Rocks and Shambhala Fest, alongside artists Clozee, Black Coffee, DOMi and JD Beck, Purity Ring, and Four Tet. Her adventurous second EP Black Weirdo was just released on July 28th on Get Better Records.

Kilamanzego's exclusive guest DJ mix for Midnight in a Perfect World is a brilliant journey through magnetic beats and provocative productions from Black creatives whose experimentation across genres shines bright, covering everything from bouncy funk to thrashing drums and progressive jazz.

Midnight in a Perfect World, KEXP's weekly hour-long guest DJ show, airs Fridays at midnight.
