Emerging Chicago-based producer DJ Hank makes his debut this month for acclaimed UK label Hyperdub Records with the release of his City Stars EP on February 25th. Raised in North Carolina, DJ Hank moved to Chicago as a teenager and he became inspired by Chicago's legendary footwork sound by attending the footwork battle night Battlegroundz. His early productions caught the attention of Hyperdub Records founder Kode9, who has been spinning DJ Hank's tracks in his DJ sets over the past few years, including a noteworthy placement in Burial & Kode9's masterful 2018 DJ mix for Mary Anne Hobbs. Building upon Chicago's foundational footwork template, DJ Hank infuses his kinetic rhythms with R&B samples and sonic elements inspired by Japanese environmental ambient music of the early 1980s.
Bookended by influential Japanese artists, DJ Hank's exclusive guest DJ mix for Midnight In A Perfect World is a brilliant journey that cruises through magnetic house and sultry amapiano rhythms before diving into a stellar run of fresh juke/footwork beats and underground rap tracks.
