DJ Veins is the alter-ego of Dave Segal, a Detroit-born, Seattle-based music journalist who has been DJing since 1996. Pre-pandemic, he organized Obscenely Obscure, the city's only library-music DJ night, and co-hosted the Instant Party monthly at Jupiter Bar. In the last decade, he's been involved as an organizer and DJ in events such as the Hypnotikon psych-rock festival, Rare Air, Estranged Sensation, PROG, and Breezy Manner. A 15-year staffer at The Stranger who was laid off in March when COVID-19 decimated the newspaper's ad revenue, Segal currently freelances for The Wire magazine, Pitchfork, and Northwest Music Scene.
DJ Veins' guest DJ mix for Midnight In A Perfect World is an adventurous all-vinyl journey exploring the obscure anything-goes world of library music, featuring songs recorded by versatile session musicians to fulfill specific functions for movies, TV shows, ads, radio bumpers, and other media. It's funky, groovy, and surprisingly psychedelic. Dig in.
