Noah Lennox is releasing the sixth Panda Bear record in a little less than a month. Today, he’s shared the latest single off the album, “Token,” via a playful video directed by and starring UK experimental artist Dean Blunt. In the opening notes, we find out that apparently, they’d had many ideas for the video: “He had plans to make something about Toy Story... then something about cowboys and cowgrrrls... Then he lost his f***ing mind. So we decided to scrap all the stuff he had planned and try to make him have some fun and smile.” We then follow Blunt around an amusement park where he grumpily sits in a bumper car, explores a funhouse, plays some sort of shooting game, and then, finally, gives one sly smile at the end.
“Token” follows lead single “Dolphin” and a video of Lennox in his practice studio playing the guitar part of album track “Inner Monologue.” Buoys is out February 8 via Domino and made KEXP’s Most Anticipated Albums of 2019 list. Watch the video for “Token” below.
