The name "Baby Dayliner" may not ring a bell, but trust us, you know this song. This earworm of a track was a heavy hitter on the Morning Show in late 2000's, and was chosen as a Song of the Day by DJ John Richards. A couple of years ago, we were able to coax the NYC-based artist out of his semi-retirement to play John in the Morning at Night. ("I've been waiting for years to see that live," John remarked from the stage.) And today, KEXP is proud to continue to push (and go) this infectious tune with the video premiere of "You Push I'll Go." The track will be released on an EP of the same name this Friday, July 7th via Brassland.

Why has it taken Baby Dayliner (real name: Ethan Marunas) nearly ten years to release this track? We're not quite sure. Despite an opening slot on a 2006 tour with The National, and being signed to Brassland (the label co-owned by band members Bryce and Aaron Dessner), he's been mostly laying low. Marunas tells KEXP, "Light cheerful tipsy feelings. No sugar needed, for I am content with what I have -- a career in nightlife. My attitude is in harmony with my lifestyle. Sanguine and untroubled. Nothing negative can drag me. It’s all a great vodka quasar in the night."

In a press release for the new EP, Matt Berninger of The National notes the positivity Marunas emanates. "What I like most Baby Dayliner’s writing is that there's rarely any meanness in his songs; no forced posturing or aggressiveness; and they are loaded with empathy. He sings about flawed and vane characters but with genuine understanding and kindness. The music is catchy, smart, and weird — something beautiful and odd, that only he does. Baby Dayliner is something uncommon in pop music. He’s unique."

Watch the clip below, and keep up with Baby Dayliner via his Facebook and website. We have a feeling he won't be disappearing for another ten years again.
