Don't let the name put you off. After all, what did we learn from Diarrhea Planet? Sometimes a band transcends its... "odd" moniker. In this case, behind the internet meme ("Let's eat grandma! Let's eat, grandma! Punctuation saves lives.") is UK duo Jenny Hollingworth and Rosa Walton. Currently just 17 years old, these lifelong friends met at age 4, a bond reflected in the title of their debut full-length, I, Gemini -- a nod to the astrological sign of twins.

With their dreamy, somber electronic sound, contrasted with their child-like vocals, the band have been garnering comparisons to artists like Kate Bush, Björk, and another female duo, CocoRosie -- artists they may not be familiar with at their young age. ("Who are Cocorosie?" they tweeted back in May.) While their experimental sound may defy their age (a style they've dubbed "psychedelic sludge-pop"), the lyrics don't. Today's Song of the Day in particular details a day playing hooky from school, with lines like, "I feel like standing on the desks and screaming, I don't care." Patty-cake handclap percussion punctuates the dirge-like pace of the song as their voices rise and fall.

The band are mostly playing through their native UK this summer, with the exception of two New York dates: Tuesday, September 20th at Rough Trade Records and Wednesday, September 21st at Berlin. Nothing planned for Seattle yet, but follow their website and their Facebook for the latest. In the meantime, check out this video for today's featured track, filmed at Cromer on the Norfolk coast near their hometown of Norwich.
