Northwest indie icons Modest Mouse go medieval in the clip for “The Ground Walks, With Time in a Box,” a highlight from their latest full-length Strangers to Ourselves. In the video, frontman Isaac Brock portrays a maniacal ruler in a post-apocalyptic world, with a dagger for a microphone and a broken lightbulb for a scepter. We're sure The Paramount will provide him with a real mic when the band plays there two nights, Monday, August 24th, and Tuesday, August 25th. [Spin]

A radio station out of Spain has leaked a track from dream-pop duo Beach House: stream the single "Sparks" below via Spanish radio station RTVE (skip ahead to the 29:00 mark). The song will be included in the band's fifth studio album, Depression Cherry, out August 28th on Sub Pop, and was recorded and produced by the band with the help of longtime collaborator Chris Coady. We were lucky to have Shana Cleveland LIVE on KEXP last week with her post-folk group Shana Cleveland & The Sandcastles (listen here), and today we've got a single from her main band La Luz to share. Check out "Don’t Wanna Be Anywhere" below, from their forthcoming Hardly Art release Weirdo Shrine. Cleveland explains to Rookie Magazine, "That song is about when you lose somebody. A friend of mine died in Michigan, that I was close to when I was in high school. I was thinking about how when someone dies the world is almost physically changed because they’re not giving back to it and their breath isn’t in the atmosphere. That’s the lyrical meaning of the song, for me." Weirdo Shrine (produced by Ty Segall) hits stores on August 7th. [Stereogum]

On Monday night, a hootenanny went down at London venue The Barbican as Beck took the stage dressed in western wear, performing against projected landscapes of the wild west as cowboys danced around him. The surreal stage set-up was part of filmmaker Doug Aitken’s Station To Station performance piece. Towards the end of his country-tinged set, Thurston Moore steps out from Beck's backing band for “Speak To The Wild” from last year's solo album, The Best Day. Watch: [Consequence of Sound]
