Good music may be one of the few things Iceland and Austin, Texas, have in common. Kaleo is a perfect example of that bond. The Austin-based Icelandic four-piece dance around their influences while delivering songs with such diverse sound you wonder if their songs all come from the same band. But unlike some groups that seem lost when they experiment with different styles, Kaleo sounds equally at home in every approach they take. The mix between American and Icelandic influence is clearly audible, but it is less a clash and more a happy marriage. Kaleo will have you singing the blues one moment, feeling the chill of a cold winter another and whistling to a dusty folk tune the next. The band only has one single currently released in the U.S but is already touring with Vance Joy and boasting a video with more views than people in Iceland. Recently, they stopped by the KEXP studio with some friends from the Seattle Symphony Orchestra to flex their versatility and share some songs from their forthcoming debut album.
