It's an unseasonably nice day here in Reykjavik (with no signs of rain, snow, or blustering winds) on the first day of Iceland Airwaves Music Festival. Fans have come from around the world to experience the electric energy of the legendary Icelandic music scene, condensed spectacularly into five days of non-stop music.

Though the festival doesn't officially begin until this evening, the city is already buzzing with excitement. Locals and visitors alike are beginning to bundle up make their way around town looking for daytime off-venue shows, all jam-packed into downtown coffee shops, bars, record stores--just about anywhere you could squeeze in a couple amps and a few enthusiastic listeners.

KEXP is posted up at Reykjavik's Kex Hostel, and we'll be bringing you live performances from 19 bands, both Icelandic and International, over the course of the next four days.

Kevin will be starting your day at 6 A.M. on the Morning Show with a live performance from Icelandic experimental electro-pop band East of My Youth, and Cheryl will be taking the helm of the Midday show as usual. Like last year's broadcast, we will be streaming live video for nineteen performances this Wednesday through Saturday. You can view the schedule for the week here.

Tune in to the live video stream here, listen live at kexp.org, and
