Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on the Afternoon Show with Kevin Cole, is “Two Bodies (feat. Emma Louise)” by Flight Facilities from the 2014 album Down To Earth on Glassnote.

Flight Facilities - Two Bodies (feat. Emma Louise) (MP3)

Incorporating a wide variety of pop and indie sensibilities into their crisp brand of house-influenced dance music, the Australian duo of Hugo Gruzman and James Lyell remix, produce, and perform as Flight Facilities. The pair first began remixing in 2009, but broke through on a national level with the release of their 2010 single, "Crave You (feat. Giselle Rosselli)", which led to the pair embarking on their first Australian nightclub tour. Further remixing and writing followed (including tracks by Cut Copy, Foals, and Holy Ghost), eventually leading up to the release of their debut album, 2014's Down To Earth, which featured contributions from Rosselli, Reggie Watts, and on a post-release reprise, Kylie Minogue. An aqueous haze envelopes "Two Bodies", moving with a smoothness that belies its percolating beat. Emma Louise's languid vocal performance is arranged fluidly into the song, serving as part of its rich texture, accentuating her not-so-subtle lyrics with nuanced vocal lines that revolve around the song's atmospheric core. Flight Facilities have long been able to craft songs that appeal to the feet, but "Two Bodies" shows that they can create insular, more emotive tracks while losing none of their club-ready charm.

Flight Facilities will play the Showbox at the Market with Beat Connection on February 21. Get tickets and more info on that 18+ show here, keep up with the band at their Facebook and website, and watch the video for "Two Bodies" below.
