Imagine a world without Lonely Forest, Kithkin, or Tomten? No, thank you! And what do these bands all have in common? They're all EMP Sound Off! alums.

EMP's Sound Off! — the Northwest's premier 21 and under battle of the bands — and Audioasis — the longest-running Northwest music show hosted by Sharlese Metcalf — join forces Friday, May 9th at the Vera Project for an all ages benefit show featuring an electric local lineup of Cumulus and EMP Sound-off! alums Fauna Shade and Female Fiends. Each month, Audioasis showcases a community partnership with a non-profit; May's show benefits The Freedom Education Project Puget Sound, a program that offers women in prison the opportunity to take college classes and earn a college degree.

Just one of the many compelling reasons to get involved with The Freedom Education Project Puget Sound: the more education a woman in prison has, the less likely she is to return to prison.

Besides attending the benefit show, here are five things you can do right now to get involved with The Freedom Education Project Puget Sound:

1. Tutor students over the summer.2. Coordinate a book drive for the FEPPS’ library inside the prison.3. Teach a class in the fall. College and preparatory math and English teachers are especially needed.4. Volunteer to run a study hall or be a teacher’s assistant.5. Donate a computer or software so students can type rather than write papers by hand.

Tickets are $7 in advance, and $8 at the door. Buy tickets here. All ages, doors at 7:30.
