"It's not the average, kind of whiny divorce record... You can dance to half the record and cry your eyes out to the rest of it." That's how Sondre Lerche describes his seventh and newest album, Please. Despite the innate heaviness of the subject material, Lerche is eager to explore every facet of the demise of his marriage, both in song and in conversation. Across the four tracks from the album played during his sixth visit to KEXP's studio, Lerche, along with drummer Dave Heilman and bassist Chris Holm, dove headfirst into the highs and lows of his now-ended romance. Augmenting the performance with a particularly direct discussion of the ideas and experiences that went into making the record, Lerche showed that, over a decade into his career, the Brooklyn-via-Bergen songwriter remains as bold, insightful, and vibrant as ever. Watch it all unfold below.
