With the fate of Sonic Youth up in the air, founding guitarist Lee Ranaldo has found steady ground with his group, The Dust. Backed by fellow SY orphan Steve Shelley on drums, along with guitarist Alan Licht and bassist Tim Lüntzel, Ranaldo's tenth album, Last Night on Earth, is his most collaborative yet. The band was on tour in support of the release when Velvet Underground frontman Lou Reed passed away, and in his honor, they covered the track "Rock & Roll," a fitting tribute to an influential artist, and a perfect testament to how an artist can continue to flourish even when his iconic band comes to a stop.
