Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is “Satisfied” by Seattle band Gibraltar from the 2014 album The New Century on Factory Belt Records.

Gibraltar - Satisfied (MP3)

The players of Gibraltar have come from far and wide — from Ohio, Illinois, Washington and Kentucky — to make up the band. Also, as part of the new movement of Seattle musicians where members can play in several bands each and not feel tied to just a single project, the Gibraltar folk have their creative hands in many other projects, from Spanish for 100 to Visqueen to DGH & the Trouble Starts. Gibraltar, however, has its own personality: a stadium power rock style that includes vibrant guitar leads and steel-your-attention-cymbal-crashes. They are rock incarnate. "Satisfied", the band's new single, is a tongue-in-cheek titled track exemplifying the band's rock prowess. The title, though, attempts to chide us — well, those of us who feel satisfied in any way. For, in art, in music, and in life in general, there can be no true satisfaction. Right? Right. This is what Gibraltar is telling us all while creating a song we can listen to while making important changes in our lives — changes that will be made whether we realize it or not!

The group will be playing May 16th at the High Dive in Seattle and will follow up that performance with a June 13th show at Dante's in Portland. For more information visit the band's website and Facebook page. For now, here's the band performing "Death Rays" live in the KEXP studio last year:
