  • Since her 2010 album Have One On Me, we haven't heard all that much from Joanna Newsom, except the fact that she is now engaged to her SNL boyfriend Andy Samberg. So it is welcome news to hear she's made a new video for her cover of Sandy Denny's "The North Star Grassman and the Ravens". The video was made for a show for fashion line Wren from Melissa Coker. The video seems to follow Joanna in her natural habitat -- an owl, sunny meadows, and her ornate harp standing atop a golden hill. Check it out below. [CoS]

  • LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy is working on his directorial debut with a short film as part of Canon/Ron Howard's Imaginat10n project. For the project, Ron Howard handpicked five celebrities to direct a short film based on their choice of ten photos from a pool of 91 contest winners. Murphy is currently in Jaan filming his contribution, entitled Little Duck, and there has just been a video released of Murphy sharing the photos he chose and why he chose them (though, as you will see, no clear answers should be expected). • Producer/artist/songwriter The-Dream has released a new track in which he proclaims that he is R&B. Ironically though, the song is anything but -- it's a gritty rap track pretty far removed from the smooth soul synth-pop majesty of his earlier work. Is this a new direction? It's hard to say at this point. Just let it sink in, first. [Stereogum]

  • The best movie of the glory days of Disney animated features has got to be the Jungle Book, mostly due to its swinging jazzy doo-wop soundtrack. What with artists like OC Notes sampling the soundtrack, and The Morning Benders covering a song, and many others adopting the songs it's clear that the music continues to strike a chord with many. Add to this canon AlunaGeorge's new cover of "I Wanna Be Like You". The electro-soul outfit does a cool jazzy version of the swinging track that is goofy and fun, but also accomplished in its own way. The track is ripped from a BBC radio special the group did, and you can check it out below. [Stereogum]
