Today’s song is “Long Drag” by Math and Physics Club from the 2013 album Our Hearts Beat Out Loud on Matinée Recordings.

Math and Physics Club – Long Drag (MP3)

The speed and trajectory of the band, Math and Physics Club, which signed with Matinée Recordings in 2004 shortly after recording a four-song demo, resembles a lightening bolt: quick surges followed by long hiatuses. Before the group played their first show, they were getting love from KEXP DJ John Richards and local Seattle music blogs. But in 2007 things slowed down for MaPC when two of the members became fathers. Now, in 2013, though, the group is poised and ready to get out into the world again, having recently released their latest LP, Our Hearts Beat Out Loud, in November.

The first single off the new record, “Long Drag”, which was put put on 7” vinyl, is a catchy, garage-pop tune showcasing the band's fun flavor. The band uses prominent hand claps, jangly rhythm guitars and the soft and friendly voice of Charles Bert, who sings, "The song that's playing is my all time favorite and it just might save me in the end." It is a song for a sunny day - keep it in mind for those joyous summer drives down the open highway.

Given the group's busy home schedules, they do not have any gigs scheduled, but you can check their Facebook page for more information and upcoming shows. In the mean time, watch this homemade video for today's featured song:
