Right around the time they were selling out two shows at Seattle's Neptune Theatre, Local Natives took an afternoon to treat KEXP VIP Club members to a special, stripped down show at The Triple Door. Though it's hard to call anything these Californians do "stripped down", they at least stuck to mainly acoustic instruments to accompany their rich harmonies. Not surprisingly, the set consisted mostly of songs from their gorgeous, though relatively darker, sophomore LP, Hummingbird. Relatively new singles "You & I", "Heavy Feet" and "Breakers" were immediate hits, but perhaps the most poignant moment was "Columbia", the last song of the performance, written in memory of singer-keyboardist Kelcey Ayer's late mother, and evoking feelings of loss and love in all around. It was truly a special moment by a band that has already endeared themselves with KEXP listeners. Experience this intimate set for yourself now:
