  • Robyn Hitchcock has announced that he will be releasing his 19th solo album on March 13, 2013 on Yep Roc Records. The title of the LP is Love From London and, according to Hitchcock, will be an album that "celebrates life in a culture imperiled by economic and environmental collapse." Hicthcock, who is painter has referred to the songs as "paintings you can listen to." The cult musician, previously of the band The Soft Boys in the late 70s, is turning 60 on March 3rd. Below is a rehearsal video for "Be Still" off of Love From London, which indicates that Hitchcock is still entirely capable of creating beautiful, unique pop music. [Consequence of Sound]

  • Those amazing shows we've been hearing about from Yo La Tengo's eight-night Hanukkah residency at Maxwell's in Hoboken have been a real source of Holiday cheer in what has been a bittersweet last several weeks. But for an even further bit of Holiday good-will-towards-men, James and Ira from Yo La Tengo have made mix cds from their personal record collections that they'll be selling here, beginning at noon on Friday, for 24 hours, to benefit the hurricane-drowned Norton Records which we previously told you about. Be sure to get yourselves a copy! You know those are some pretty amazing music collections they'll be pulling from. And, if you really need more convincing, here's a video detailing the challenges Norton has been facing. [Pitchfork]

  • Grizzly Bear is joining in on the Holidays by releasing a seven-minute video featuring some of the songs from Shields arranged for solo piano. It's a hilariously new-age experience. Over shots of planet earth, yule logs burning, vegetables, tacos, etc there is the tinkling piano music -- relaxing, very nice for those quiet Christmas mornings, or for relaxing during the Holidays with friends and family. Check it out below. Seasons Greetings from Grizzly Bear! [SPIN]

  • In a VH1 "Divas Live" special, Canada's Metric channeled Blondie and Morrisey in two covers. For their performance of "Heart of Glass" they performed in front a Paralell Lines-esque cover art backdrop with Emily Haines looking quite Debbie Harry, and later they performed an acoustic rendition of Morrisey's "Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself". Check out the period-piece performance of "Heart of Glass" below. [Stereogum]
