Michigan-based punk quartet Dogleg project an angsty, emo vibe that might remind you of adolescence, a feeling solidified by the video for today's Song of the Day, which looks like it was filmed in a high school gymnasium. (It was actually filmed at the Hartland Performing Arts Center in Howell, MI during the final BLED Fest in 2019.)  As evidenced in the clip, the band have become known for their raucous live performances. In an interview with A Tune That, bassist Chase Macinski explains, "Whenever I play live shows, I try to think of my favourite Anime fights and that’s the energy that I try to put into the show itself and demonstrate myself."

The youthful group imbue that same nerdy energy into their music. Today's featured track is named for Fox McCloud from the Star Fox video game franchise. Their 2016 EP was titled Remember Alderaan?, an ode to Star Wars. And the band often bring a video game system to their shows, setting up at the merch table and challenging fans to a round of Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. (If you beat Macinski, you win free merch. But, as his bandmate Parker Grissom points out, "He’s never lost, not once.") We can't promise the band have brought the GameCube on tour, but you can catch them tonight (Wednesday, January 29th) at Mississippi Studios in Portland, OR. Their debut LP Melee will be out later this year via Triple Crown Records.
