The name DJ Seinfeld belies the serious artist behind the moniker: Sweden-based electronic producer Armand Jakobsson is no irony-loving hipster. (He's also recorded under the names Rimbaudian and Birds of Sweden.) In fact, DJ Seinfeld was intended as a side project to Rimbaudian, a place for him to escape his lo-fi house roots and embrace a sharper sound touching on breakbeat, techno, and house. His latest EP Galazy is the inaugural release on his own imprint Young Ethics, a record label he started to release his own music.
"My label is not intended to be a response to the many ethical dilemmas the industry and the individuals within find themselves in," Jakobsson says via a press release. "My suspicion is merely that at least a part of those uncertain moments stem from the maturity (or lack thereof) of the industry; indeed oftentimes it seems that it makes it up as we go along... For the foreseeable future, I have therefore chosen to release music under the Young Ethics umbrella, as an acknowledgement of the aforementioned, but also as a reminder to myself to keep exploring."
