Long-running Canadian collective Broken Social Scene return this year with a duet of EPs — Let's Try the After, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 — their first new music since 2017's LP Hug of Thunder. They shared the following statement about their pair of releases:
“The ceremony of dying generations without any guidelines for how to move forward makes these times easy for the mirror wars to continue. We can hide in the beauty of what has been stolen from us because somewhere there is mystery in not knowing. How can the ruined survive without a back up plan? Let’s try the after.”
For today's Song of the Day, frontman Kevin Drew admitted to Rolling Stone magazine that the title was originally going to be “Can’t Find My Car,” a nod to the 2000 film Dude, Where’s My Car? “It was ‘Car’ right up until the last minute,” Drew says. “[Guitarist] Charlie Spearin was like, ‘Please keep it car.’ But at the time I knew where my car was — it was downstairs in my garage. My heart, I was like, ‘I have no idea where this fuckin’ thing is anymore.’ So I thought that’s the way to go.”
Broken Social Scene are holding a concert residency on July 29th and 30th at the Neptune Theatre in Seattle. For every ticket sold, $1 will be donated to support Youth Speaks, an organization that "creates safe spaces that challenge young people to find, develop, publicly present, and apply their voices as creators of societal change."
