With a name like “I Wanna Keep Yr Dog,” you may think today’s Song of the Day is a play on the Iggy Pop song of a similar name but it bears no similarities beyond that. The recent Illuminati Hotties track is a driving power pop single about searching for love and finding someone’s dog instead.
“One time I went on a date with someone I met through a dating app,” explained frontwoman Sarah Tudzin. “Their dog was much cuter than they were … if you’re out there reading this, I’m sorry it didn’t work out. I still don’t have a dog but at least I ended up with a song.”
The song has been a constant in the band’s live show and follows last year’s debut record Kiss Yr Frenemies. Illuminati Hotties will play the Showbox SoDo opening for American Football on Friday, May 17.
