clipping. frontman Daveed Diggs has been busy since the release of their 2013 selt-titled debut album, winning a Tony and a Grammy Award for his work in the musical Hamilton, a reoccuring role on the TV show Black-ish, and writing, producing and starring in the 2018 film Blindspotting.
He brings this sense of storytelling to the forthcoming clipping. full-length, There Existed an Addiction to Blood, out October 18 via Sub Pop. With producers William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes, they've created an album inspired by horrorcore, both the movie genre and the rap movement led by artists like Brotha Lynch Hung and Gravediggaz.
Today's Song of the Day takes inspiration from John Carpenter’s soundtrack to the 1976 cult thriller Assault On Precinct 13, imaging it re-told as police raiding a trap-house. A press release describes it: "Diggs sketches the narrative from the perspective of the victims, full of lurid and visceral details and intricate wordplay. The windows are boarded and sealed, the product simmers on the stove, the bodies sleep fitfully in shifts. Then law enforcement arrives and the bullets start to fly."
