Three years ago, The Quietus described Toronto-based quintet The Autumn Stones as “like The Smiths covering Roxy Music, or vice versa.” It’s a fairly apt description of the chamber pop band, who just released their third full-length, Emperor Twilight, last week. Our song of the day, “Mandatory Love,” is the album’s jangly lead single. Their last album, 2015’s Escapists, garnered the band a ton of buzz and Emperor Twilight should be no different. Emperor Twilight was recorded in early 2018 at House of Miracles in Cambridge, Ontario.
