Portland alt-folk singer/songwriter Laura Veirs is releasing her 10th studio album, The Lookout, this spring and "Everybody Needs You" is its lead single, released late January. As with the past 9 albums of hers, The Lookout was produced by her husband Tucker Martine and features a number of guests, including Sufjan Stevens, My Morning Jacket's Jim James, Steve Moore, and Karl Blau. Veirs has described the album, saying: “The Lookout is about the need to pay attention to the fleeting beauty of life and to not be complacent; it’s about the importance of looking out for each other. I’m addressing what’s happening around me with the chaos of post-election America, the racial divides in our country, and a personal reckoning with the realities of midlife: I have friends who’ve died; I struggle with how to balance life as an artist with parenting young children." Veirs will play Fremont Abbey on Friday, May 18 with The Hackles. The Lookout is out April 13 via Veirs self-run label Raven Marching Band Records. - Jasmine Albertson
