Portland-based Mexican-American band Y La Bamba are releasing their fifth studio album, Mujeres, on February 8 via Tender Loving Empire. Led by the powerful Luz Elena Mendoza, the title track off the record and our Song of the Day is a driving anthem against misogyny.

"This song was written last year after having one too many misogynistic experiences with men,” explains Mendoza. “This song is for my mother and for all of us women who have and still battle the fight to be heard. A song screaming, I am not your object, I am Intelligent, Strong, Full of Heart, Emotional, Powerful and Brave."

“Mujeres” was released as the A-side of the 7-inch b/w "Paloma Negra" last month. Ahead of its release, the band gave KEXP a sneak peek of the song during their in-studio performance in August. Watch that below.
