The KEXP Vinyl Club features extremely limited pressings of hand-picked Live on KEXP sessions. These albums celebrate the unique, genre-defying performances that make KEXP special. Led by DJ Kevin Cole, we’ve compiled a list of the over 8,000 live sessions we’ve recorded since 2001 and asked our DJs, curators, and audio and video teams to vote on their favorite sessions. As you can imagine, it is an awesome list! You can trust that you’ll get some artists you know and love, some you’ve wanted to dive deeper with, and some that will feel brand new to you.
Each album produced features 1-2 Live on KEXP sessions, and albums are sent out two at a time as pairs, every other month. One goal of the curation is that the album pairings tell a story: for example, a legendary performance from the past paired with a current artist we think may be a future legend, or a new and emerging artist paired with a well known, established artist, or a pairing of similar styles, or in some cases, radical styles.
As the list gets whittled down, and artists and bands are selected, we then reach out to the artists, labels, and publishers to obtain the rights for these very special, exclusive releases. Producing these albums is truly a team effort between KEXP, the artists, their management, labels, publishers and our fulfillment partners and the results are one-of-a-kind records you can’t find anywhere else.
