This North Carolina band led by brothers Seth and Scott Avett follows up their 2009 breakthrough album I And Love And You with another beautifully crafted set of mostly dark folk-pop. With Rick Rubin again producing, The Carpenter’s sound is a gorgeous blend of acoustic and electric guitars, prominent piano and cello and occasional banjo and other instrumentation accompanying their increasingly smooth lead vocals and harmonies, wistful lyrics and strong melodies. 9/7/2012
