Bill Frisell: The Intercontinentals
Buy! - (Nonesuch)
The Intercontinentals is the name of this Seattle guitarist's new album and the backing band used for the album. Formed at Seattle's Earshot Jazz Festival in 2001, the band's lineup features a variety of stellar Malian, Greek, Brazilian and American musicians. While the moody atmospherics of these mostly instrumental songs will be familiar to Frisell fans, the group's diverse musical background gives him a chance to incorporate a variety of styles from around the world, including a generous heaping of the bluesy Malian music of folks like Ali Farka Toure. 4/15/2003 - Don Yates
