Maximum Balloon is the new project of TV on the Radio’s multi-instrumentalist/producer Dave Sitek. His debut album under that name isn’t all that different sonically from the music he makes with his more famous band, though there’s a greater emphasis on dancefloor-friendly beats and pop hooks within Sitek’s densely layered constructions of buzzing synths, percussive funk guitars, drum machines, bass and occasional horns. All 10 songs feature a different guest vocalist, with pretty much all of the singers being great fits for Sitek’s woozy soundscapes. 9/17/2010
