- (Matador)
The latest album from this prolific Memphis rocker is easily his most pop-oriented release to date that continues his sonic evolution by using a greater variety of tonal colors and instrumentation to flesh out some seriously hook-filled tunes. While he still has a foot in various kinds of lo-fi garage-rock, he really hits his stride here with Buzzcocks-style, punkish power-pop and even a little chiming, ‘60s-inspired folk-pop. 8/10/2009
