The debut album from this New York-based band featuring former members of Helmet, Don Caballero and Lynx is an adventurous outing of avant electro-rock, blending elements of prog, electronic, math-rock, pop, jazz-fusion, metal and more into bold, intricate soundscapes. Battles’ playful, at times dizzying combination of squiggly guitar and keyboard lines, chopped-up rhythms, pummeling drums and processed, wordless vocals sounds like a Carl Stalling Looney Tunes soundtrack updated for the 21st century club crowd. 5/17/2007
