- (Interscope)
The debut album from this British band led by former Libertines guitarist/vocalist Carl Barat picks up where the Libertines left off, with an invigorating set of ramshackle punk-pop spiked with catchy hooks. While the sound’s a bit more streamlined and polished, it contains clear echoes of the Libertines, along with musical predecessors like the Clash and the Jam. Barat aims a number of venomous lyrics at his former musical partner Pete Doherty, but it’s the spiky riffs that hit hardest. 8/4/2006
