  • Australia's golden child of the past couple years, Courtney Barnett, has released a brand new old song, a track she used to perform often at open mics when she was just starting out. Titled "How To Boil An Egg," it has finally been recorded and released for our listening pleasure. The single is being released through Australian label Aussie Pleasure and her own Milk! Records for their Split Singles Club, which gives fans the option to purchase select singles via digital download and/or vinyl with a subscription. [ Consequence of Sound ]

  • Keith Mitchell, drummer and one of the founding members of Mazzy Star, as well as Opal, Monitor and Green on Red, passed away on Sunday. No cause of death has been reported. Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval and David Roback said in a statement, "Our hearts are broken. We have lost the much beloved Keith Mitchell, a very talented and amazing drummer that we have had the privilege to work with for many years, he will live in all of our hearts forever... We'll miss you Big Fella." [ Rolling Stone ]
  • Flying Lotus has had a busy few days. After headlining Seattle's Upstream Music Festival, FlyLo has released two very interesting new tracks. "Night Grows Pale" samples Queen's "White Queen (At It Began)" from the 1974 record Queen II. There's no word if this from a new album or a standalone single. His other notable new release is a remix of the Twin Peaks theme song, originally by Angelo Badalamenti. With the brand new season of Twin Peaks airing Sunday, May 21 the timing is certainly ideal. Both tracks are available to download for free on Soundcloud. [ Under the Radar ]

  • Local artist Briana Marela has been making a name for herself as of late. Along with being an honorary member of Seattle band Hoop, her upcoming album Call It Love was recorded with the band Small Black and is being released through Jagjaguwar on August 4th. "Quit" is the just-released first single off that album, which you can stream below. Marela is currently on tour around the country but we can probably expect some Seattle shows once she's back.
