It's been nearly a decade since Sleater-Kinney declared a hiatus, but they're returning in a big way, bringing in St. Vincent to produce their comeback LP The Center Won’t Hold, out August 16th. "We're always mixing the personal and the political, but on this record, despite obviously thinking so much about politics, we were really thinking about the person — ourselves or versions of ourselves or iterations of depression or loneliness — in the middle of the chaos," vocalist/guitarist Carrie Brownstein explains via a press release.
On the first single shared, and today's Song of the Day, Brownstein implores a lover to come over. In the accompanying lyric video, directed by Miranda July, the words spell out as a text conversation. ("I thought we were on a break," one text reads.) Watch below. Despite recently losing long-time drummer Janet Weiss, Sleater-Kinney return to Seattle on November 23rd at the Paramount Theatre.
